Hello there my tangling friends, welcome back for another week of fun tangling inspiration.
Today’s Krazy 8’s is from Canadian tangler (and prolific tangle deconstructor) Cyndi Knapp. (BTW, my example is more Konservative 8’s …)
Krazy 8’s shares DNA with my Aussie buddy CZT Michele Beauchamp’s Wist from the very early days of TanglePatterns. In fact, I should probably call Krazy 8’s a tangleation of Wist. Michele’s tangle was inspired by the spectacular wisteria covering the front path at her home in Tasmania and I couldn’t resist sharing Michele’s photo of its gorgeousness:
Cyndi tells us about her Krazy 8’s inspiration,
Here’s another Monday morning kind of tangle…
The inspiration for this pattern was a framed print in an online home interior article. I saved the photo but so long ago that I couldn’t find it. So the pattern was created from the best of my recollection.
Krazy 8’s is a super easy and whimsical organic pattern named for its basic structure and the end result.
It’s equally as fun to tangle conservatively as it is to tangle wildly.
Each figure 8 in a string of figure 8’s, starts and ends on the base line (Steps 2-5).
Also, being an open vessel type, fill possibilities are only limited by one’s creativity.
As you’ll note by comparing Cyndi’s Zentangle® tile above and the steps illustration below, Krazy 8’s can be created with “regular” 8’s and/or … well, crazy 8’s 🙂 Or as Cyndi says, tangled conservatively or wildly. Loads of options for sizes, shapes and fills to play with …
Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Krazy 8’s below and she features it in a beautiful duotangle Zendala with the Zentangle-original Printemps.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Your tangle reminds me of simple lace you used to see on little girls clothes. It looks fun and so lite and airy. Thank you
Love the inspiration for this. Thanks for sharing.
Hahaha I love the wonkiness of the Crazy 8s! And it works fantastically to fill with all manner of tangles <3
How I love simple patterns! Thanks for all your work Linda. And all tangles contributions to the site too.
