How to draw BLOMKOAL

Hi everyone!

Off we go with another great week of fun and inspirational tangles.

Blomkoal, our super easy Monday tangle is from Dutch CZT Maaike Terpstra and it’s her first on the site.

Maaike introduces herself and explains how her Blomkoal tangle gets its name:

My name is Maaike Terpstra from the Netherlands, Dokkum. Dokkum is a cosy little town up in the North of the Netherlands.

We have besides Dutch our own language: Frysian, so I gave my new pattern a Frysian name: blomkoal. It means cauliflower.

I had a hard time after meningitis in January 2010. Zentangle® rescued me, sort of …

I taught myself from the internet at first. It made me happy again, I felt artistic, free and satisfied again by drawing.

In June 2017 I felt ready for the seminar in Providence. I made the trip a holiday with my two sisters; later on we flew to Canada and had a wonderful time at Devil’s Lake with family. Unforgettable, both experiences!

My brain won’t let me teach Zentangle, but I’m proud of my fellow teachers in my own country and all over the world, what a great family we have!

Blomkoal starts out like Australian CZT Michele Beauchamp’s Blooming-Butter but then does its own fun thing. Both can grow in any and all directions and as Maaike shows, they can be used as an overall filler tangle or as a ribbon-style one.

Maaike illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Blomkoal below where she features it on a Phi tile monotangle with the Zentangle-original Tucker technique.
