How to draw PARMZ

Greetings and many thanks for keeping me company again today, always lovely to see you!

Our Parmz tangle is from Australian tangler Sue Zanker, a very dedicated Zentangle® Zealot and it’s her fifth on the site.

It’s been a week of tangles from the archives and this one is too.

When Sue submitted Parmz she wrote,

I have just returned from a few days lolling on a beach in Far North Queensland and while laying and looking up at the sky, the palms above me were whispering to me “make a tangle of us” ! As I took my small Zentangle box of goodies with me, I did !! I know tangles are not supposed to be “things” but the patterns of the fronds were really calling out to me !! 🙂

I started tangling in February 2012 and am very much addicted, loving every second I tangle, whether at home or on a quick “getaway” holiday. Although ‘sort of’ retired, I have been a professional Calligrapher and teacher for the last 34 years and still ‘keep my hand in’ as it were, though just for family, friends and me these days. Tangling relaxes me like nothing else does so I often do a small tile just before I start lettering, as it helps to calm my mind, my spirit and my occasionally wobbly hand !

Always fascinated by where our fellow tanglers come from or visit, I had to check out Far North Queensland, first stop Wikipedia:

Far North Queensland (FNQ) is the northernmost part of the Australian state of Queensland. Its largest city is Cairns and it is dominated geographically by Cape York Peninsula, which stretches north to the Torres Strait, and west to the Gulf Country. The waters of Torres Strait include the only international border in the area contiguous with the Australian mainland, between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

The region is home to three World Heritage Sites, the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics of Queensland and Riversleigh, Australia’s largest fossil mammal site. Far North Queensland lays claim to over 70 national parks, including Mount Bartle Frere; with a peak of 1,622 metres (5,322 ft) it is the highest peak in both Northern Australia and Queensland.

The Far North region is the only region of Australia that is home to both the Aboriginal Australians and the Torres Strait Islanders.

I thought Sue’s image of lolling on a beach would be especially warmly welcomed by most of us northerners this particular time of year 🙂 and I’m sure she’ll enjoy being reminded of the memories of her beach getaway.

For my example I played with rotating and mirroring the Parmz fragment.

Sue illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Parmz below. She demonstrates mirroring and rotating the Parmz fragment and features it in a tile with the Zentangle-originals Crescent Moon, Flux, Onamato and Fescu.
