Greetings! and welcome back for another inspiration of tangles, starting with our easy Monday version.
Marley is from Kansas tangler Christie King and it’s her first on the site.
Christie introduces herself and Marley,
I am from Kansas and my husband and I are currently moving to a new home that is located by our favorite lake.
I don’t recall exactly when I discovered Zentangle® but I believe it was 2010 or thereabouts. I was drawing Celtic knots at the time and stumbled upon the tangle Paradox which I found fascinating. I quickly did some research and found that it was part of this fabulous drawing method known as Zentangle!
The rest they say is history.
I have practiced Zentangle for a number of years now and lately have been playing around with this Joki and Verve combination of tangles.
I wanted to include something else so started playing around with Hollis which quickly morphed into Opus which then morphed into this tangle which I affectionately call, Marley.
It’s a very easy and forgiving tangle. Softening the corners of the triangular heads adds more appeal.
I also believe that the more movement (wonkiness!) one can add, the more character, and I love character!
Marley is a fun and easy tangle and I found that if I drew the Fescu-like frond first it helped get the positioning. I like how Christie drew some of hers “behind” in her tile example it gives it more dimension, will have to try that next time!
Christie illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Marley below and she includes a simple monotangle featuring her tangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Congratulations on your first tangle, Christie! And it is a strong and beautiful tangle which can stand alone on in a crowd of other tangles. Thanks for inspiring Monday!
Ooooo. Your sample tile gives me ideas for my 2021 Christmas card envelopes.
Thank you, Christie and Linda.
Hello my friend and congratulations on your pattern being published on Tangle Patterns. Love this pattern and all of your work. Beautiful tile sampler
Thank you Christie for this fun tangle. Wasn’t it great when you first discovered Zentangle?
Great tangle Christie – simple but with so much potential for variation. I know just with one glance that it’s going to be a joy to tangle with!
I love this one and am looking forward to trying it!
This is a featured tangle on a fb group and I loved drawing it. When I started, I joined it as a leaf, then looked at step out and saw it’s not a leaf. So off I went again, looking at stepout and drawing a awesome , relaxing tangle. Thank you.
