Welcome to the first weekend of Spring in our Northern Hemisphere and another fun tangle to explore.
Naatoni is from Spanish CZT Encarna Rodríguez and it’s her first on the site.
Composed of simple curly brackets — { and } — or S and reverse-S strokes if you like, Naatoni is surprisingly versatile as you’ll see in Encarna’s variety of examples.
She introduces herself and her tangle,
My name is Encarna Rodríguez. I live in Madrid (Spain) and in November I became a certified teacher CZT36.
I love Zentangle® and I have been practicing for almost a year with different CZT teachers in Spain and in several countries around the world. It has helped me a lot to have an illusion and to be able to entertain myself at home in these times of pandemic. Zentangle® has helped me with the fear and anxiety that this situation produces. I would like to be able to help and transmit this fantastic Method to other people around me.
I have a degree in Pedagogy, Educational Sciences and training as an elementary school teacher.
Naatoni is a tribute to remember my mother who died on January 4, 2021. Her name was Antonia and these are the letters that make up her name in another order.
Naatoni is a double S shape that create a curly brackets {}. The Curly Brackets sometimes are single and sometimes double. Different auras are added.
Encarna illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Naatoni below:
In these steps she demonstrates the variation I used for my example though I used slightly different shading for mine.

Encarna –
Thank you so much for the tangle Naatonia. Simple, yet so versitile to add motion and depth to any tile. I am sorry for your loss and see this tangle as a fitting tribute to your mother.
Peace,
Linda
Thank you so much!!! I am very grateful and I believe that every time someone uses it, my mother will be remembered. A hug
Encarna,
This is a lovely tangle, reminiscent of beautiful Spanish tiles. I love the examples shown, and will use them in my own practice. I too am very sorry for your loss. This is such a lovely way to honor your mother.
Thank you very much!!! Yes it is possible that it looks like Spanish tiles in one of its versions (I hadn’t noticed). I wish you much enjoyment from practicing this tangle. Best wishes
Encarna – Thank you for this beautiful tribute to your mother. I’m sure she would be so very honored to know of your dedication to her. I lost my mom last July, and it was Zentangle and my faith that got me through it. I share your loss. As I practice and use this beautiful tangle, I will breathe a prayer for you.
Thank you so much!!! I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother . Certainly the practice of zentangle has helped me a lot to overcome this hard time! Thank you for the prayer. Best wishes
A fun lovely tangle as well as a tribute to a Mom. Well done.
Thank you very much!!! I’m so glad you find it fun and with possibilities. I will be happy to have it used and I hope my mom will be proud of me. Best regards
