How to draw SHARK’S REEF

Welcome to Wednesday my friends. Delighted to “see” you again!

Fingers crossed those of you who were affected by Hurricane Isaias after it left us and moved up the East Coast and Canada were not unduly disrupted. It does take some emotional toll dealing with the uncertainty of these things, I can totally relate.

Zentangle to the rescue, right?

Today we have Shark’s Reef to explore, an interesting tangle from Indian CZT Jasmine Jehangir. It’s Jasmine’s first tangle on the site.

She introduces herself,

Born and bred in the heart of India, Mumbai. I have always been inclined towards creativity. Having over three decades of experience in architectural stained glass, mosaic & interior designing, it was love at first sight when I got introduced to Zentangle® and since then I never looked back.

A CZT 26, I have experienced first hand the de-stressing powers of tangling. Adding my love of jazz music to it, one needs nothing more!

Seeing how it helped me overcome any and all hurdles thrown my way, I used this experience to help others; From medical professionals who need to be relieved of stress to patients who need to manage pain, tangling has a mental impact like no other.

Jasmine gives some tips for tangling Shark’s Reef,

Step #1 Make the first step with very pointed edges depicting a shark’s jagged tooth.

Step #2 Make the shape like a shark’s tail.

Jasmine’s tips assume you have familiarity with a shark’s anatomy 😉 but the steps themselves are clear. I found I could also begin with the second step and then add the first step within those shapes. Either way, with a touch of shading and/or adding some ink “coloring” you’ll get a very attractive tangle with a woven appearance to it.

Jasmine illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Shark’s Reef below where she features it in a regular white Zentangle tile together with the Zentangle-originals Gneiss, Printemps and the tangle enhancer perfs, and on a Zendala tile as a monotangle in a pretty ribbon border.
