Greetings fellow tanglers, welcome back for another week of fun tangle inspiration.
Today’s Suspenders tangle is from NY CZT Jody Genovese and it’s her 28th tangle on the site!
Jody explains Suspenders “came about [along with Seize] as I was practicing letter forms for a class I am participating in on loving my imperfect letters …
Suspenders reminded me of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge so I started to look at the types of bridges and their parts. Both of these are Suspension or Cable-Stayed Bridges.
The cables that hold the deck to the main cable are called suspender cables and I liked that so I’m calling this fragment Suspenders.
As with many grid-based tangles, Suspenders can be mirrored and rotated or paired in different configurations creating an entirely different outcome. The experimentation process can be an excellent meditative experience.
Jody illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Suspenders below. She includes a sweet Zentangle featuring Suspenders suspended from the L5 fragment (page 114, Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1) and bridging between the Zentangle-original Marasu and Diva Dance, as well as Suspenders in a Bijou monotangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Love the flow of this pattern! The “swoop and sweep” is so awesome when it’s repeated multiple times, and it works so well with other patterns that emulate that same feeling .
