How to draw FLORIA

Like many other Canadians as well as winter-weary folk everywhere, CZT Bunny Wright is waiting patiently for Spring to arrive.

What could be better than Floria, a joyful Spring flower-like tangle. Along with her Floria submission Bunny writes,

Here we are in Ontario waiting, with great expectation, the arrival of warmer weather.

This morning as I was preparing my submission, a tiny song sparrow was sitting in the tree outside. The window was open (so the cat could have a sit at it) and that wee bird’s melody gladdened my heart. I’ve been going through a somewhat emotional time these days and that little song just lifted my spirits.

Originally I was going to call it, ‘Jolie Fleur’ which means ‘pretty flower’, (I wonder if a lot of people do that) but, changed it to Floria. I do love opera and have since I was a small child. I’ve also had the pleasure of singing in a few operettas. Happy memories!

As opera aficionados will know, Floria Tosca is a character in the famous opera. (I had to look it up and that fact reveals all there is to know about Linda and opera.)

When I looked for some background on the song sparrow, imagine my surprise when I found the photo above on Wikipedia and noticed straight away that it was taken in Whitby, Ontario, practically next door to Bunny’s home town of Oshawa! If this works you can delight in the melodious song of the delicate little Melospiza melodia. (If your browser doesn’t display the audio file player, visit the Wikipedia page and look for the photo in the upper right corner, the player is below the photo.)

Do take a listen. I promise just like Bunny, it will lift your spirits too. {Whether or not your cat is handy. Or your tax forms aren’t ready to mail today.}

Bunny’s Floria is a sweet, lovely tangle that can float freely around your tile and it also works well as a ribbon-style tangle.

Bunny illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Floria below with variations, “I’ve included patterns Bales, Lantern-Pho and my pattern Fitzi, with some shady Printemps, (aha…spring) in the second tile.
