Quabog is yet another of the earliest “official” tangle patterns, a Zentangle®-original.
I wonder if “Zentangle” went through my list looking for everything that hadn’t been published yet because they’re sure covering a lot of very old ground — and that’s a wonderful thing for we tangle fanatics.
This is the first time Zentangle HQ made a Quabog lesson public and published it online in video form.
As part of the Twelve Days of Zentangle, 2018 Edition series, several of these “old” tangles that haven’t been publicly published before are being included in the series. I’m adding each of them to TanglePatterns so there will continue to be a few more tangles coming your way than usual..
In this Day 5 video at 01:55 Maria demonstrates how to tangle Quabog.
As far as how Quabog got its name, Rick and Maria had this exchange:
Maria: “I think it comes from some plant that I know it was around here.“
Rick: “It reminds me of those little tiny tiny mushrooms.“
Maria: “Yeah they sort of look like that or little grasses that that just grow amongst each other and weave in and out.“
NOTE: For future reference, the video segment for the other tangles included in this “Twelve Days of Zentangle” series can be located on the tangle’s page on TanglePatterns.
Day 5 tangles include Bunzo, Quabog, Zenith, and Ing.

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
