Happy Friday y’all. Almost our last one in the summer month of August here in the Northern Hemisphere. We’re heading into Fall and Winter while our Southern Hemisphere friends are heading toward the warmth of Spring and Summer. Amazing planet we are blessed to live on.
Today Ohio tangler Joan Stark returns with her summery Beach Buck tangle and it’s her 7th tangle on the site.
Joan had a wee mishap recently but she’s been taking advantage of her “time-out” to tangle, including coming up with Beach Buck. “Very simple to do and has lots of variations with fun embellishments.”
She writes,
“I hurt my knee doing something silly and I am to rest, ice, elevate, and wear a knee brace. Guess what I’m doing while following doctor’s orders? Yep, I’m tangling!
It starts with a ‘circle’ made with inward loops. … You can make as many loops as you want… 4-5-6-7? Anything.
Add rice shapes originating in the center and pointing out to the areas between the loops. Add some lines between the rice shapes. Aura the complete tangle.
And, if you want, you can aura the inside. Embellish as you like.
When I completed the tangle, it reminded me of a sand dollar. So that’s why I decided to call it ‘Beach Buck’…”
FWIW, sometimes I find changing up the sequence of steps works better for me. In this case I begin with Step 2 so I have something to aim for with for my loops in Step 1. Otherwise I get rather odd-shaped Beach Bucks. This is fun to embellish as your intuition flows …
Joan illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Beach Buck below and in her ZIA she shows a variety of ways to change it up a bit including 4-, 5-, and 6-petaled versions.

Hi Joan! Love it–thanks for sharing!
Trish
Thanks Trish! ?
I really like this one. It’s very organic and “flowery”. I can see many possibilities here. Thank you for sharing this one with us.
It’s a sand dollar! Beach Buck- so clever, and a great tangle!
Thanks, I found it easier to start with step 2 as well. Lovely pattern
