Happy Monday to you, once again! {WHERE did June go?}
Today West Hartford CT CZT Laura Marks shares her lovely Ringz tangle with us and it’s her first on the site.
Laura writes that she was drawing on her day planner recently and Ringz just appeared.
According to Laura’s page in the CZT directory,
I hold a degree in fine arts and a Master’s degree in counseling but hadn’t drawn in years since my children were born. I happened to go on a women’s retreat a few years ago and one member shared her small Zentangle® tile with the group. My eyes zeroed in on the small intricate black and white images and I was hooked from then on.
Since that day, I draw daily, take classes and meet with fellow Zentangle artists on a regular basis. I feel like the Zentangle Method of drawing blends my two interests, art and healing, in the best way I could imagine.
I became a Certified Zentangle Teacher in April, 2016 so I may share my experience and knowledge with others. I love showing people that anyone can be an artist and there are no mistakes in Zentangle – only opportunities.
Ringz is very easy to tangle, especially at Step 3 if you repeat the mantra “outside-inside” (or “inside-outside” if you prefer) and it comes to life with the sparkle tangle enhancer. I attempted to add shading to my example but my tortillion had picked up some wet ink and I ended up doing some Photoshop surgery to fix the mess that created. Note to self: don’t use tortillions when they’re past their due date.
Laura illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Ringz below and she demonstrates it in a lovely, simple monotangle with a touch of shading to make Ringz appear as if it’s floating over the tile.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your comment helps motivate them to continue to share!

Wow, uncomplicated but so beautiful, thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Laura, I love your pattern, it looks easy and a lot of fun. May I suggest a ‘sander’ for your tortillion? It’s fine sandpaper on a wooden handle. I use it to sand down my tortillion when it gets ‘icky’.
You get a lot more life out of one.
Bunny, funny you mention the “sander”…Before I opened Linda’s site, I had just rescued several tortillion that I though were goners.
AND
Laura, thanks for this new tangle. I’m certain to use it often.
Super simple tangle – I know that I’ll use this often! And lots of potential for variation! Thank you!
Hi Laura, Congratulations on a beautiful tangle. It so nice to see someone from W. Hartford posted.
I’m not sure what you posted about the tortillion, but I use an emery board which is handy and packs nicely with your pens.
Nice and fun tangle too. I use an old emery board to clean up some of my tortillons to get more use out of them. Works well.
Laura thank you for Ringz. Very pretty. I love your shading and your “inside-outside” mantra. I will definitely be saying that to myself! Thank you for sharing. Nancy
Wow, what a fantastic tangle, Laura. Easy and effective. I love it, thank you.
This is a beautiful pattern! Thanks for sharing.
So beautiful! Very simple and yet SO effective. My favorite kind of tangle. 🙂
