How to draw CORKIN

Zentangle pattern: Corkin. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Corkin is CZT Sandy Hunter’s sister tangle to Pooma, featured a bit earlier today.

Where Pooma is an embellished circle tangle, Corkin similarly starts with a circle but with an orb in the middle — “As with any good morning worth starting, you begin with a doughnut” — from which the embellishments grow.

Sandy doesn’t say so but I am reasonably sure she had the wooden spool with pegs on the top and a hole through the middle used for the yarn craft called Corking, also known as French Knitting and Spool Knitting. Notes Wikipedia,

Spool knitters typically have four or five pegs (or brass nails), although can also range from sixteen to more than one hundred.

Yikes! As I recall from many years ago, four pegs was enough for me to manage …

Sandy writes,

I’ve been on a circle pattern kick lately. They’re SO much fun to play with. Coming up with simple patterns and then working out piles of ways to make them ridiculously complicated is my new favorite thing.

Sandy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Corkin here on her blog — and outdoing Pooma‘s 24 variations — Sandy demonstrates forty (40!) variations of Corkin for you to explore. For my Corkin example instead of choosing just one, I included nine of Sandy’s suggestions.

So now you have 64 (sixty-four)!!! versions of Sandy’s sister tangles to play with not only in their own variations but in how you arrange them on your tiles! That should keep you busy until Wednesday?

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.
