It’s September the first (already!) and this is also our long Labor Day weekend as well as we gradually move towards Fall. One of my favorite seasons of the year.
Today we have a simple, and as you will see in her examples below, a very versatile tangle for your tangling pleasure.
Taiwan CZT Ai Ling Hung shared her Pand tangle with us some time ago, today we’re exploring her 03 (zero 3) tangle.
Ai Ling writes the idea for 03 came to her last year while decorating her Christmas tree with its string of lights. 03 is based on the figure 3 for the light’s wiring, together with tiny orbs, or 0’s:
Just like the lamp decorations with wire around the tree gives us warmth, light and hope.
Wow, lovely three things in our life.
Ai Ling’s tangle uses two of Zentangle®’s elemental strokes: two C shapes to create the 3, and an orb (see Dicso for more on this). For my main example above I used one of Ai Ling’s variation examples of a sweet, simple floral ribbon tangle. For the example on the right I began with a dot grid of 0’s or orbs (Step 3) to help give even overall spacing for the tangle. There are many, many ways to embellish this simple, graceful tangle that can function as a border tangle or an all-over one.
Ai Ling illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing 03 below. Couldn’t be easier.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you all again on Monday … 🙂

Really pretty tangle! Thank you!
Easy and fun! Thanks.
let’s enjoy it ^^
LOVE the idea of using your pattern around a picture!!! I have a picture of both grandmothers and plan to change the mats immediately after some practice.
Welcome Robin, I’m delighted you found the videos inspirational. There are lots of possibilities within them, that’s for certain. Great to have you aboard …
I love dainty, pretty tangles that I can actually do without getting stressed (because that defeats the purpose!). This is great and I like the template for the steps-to-draw
What a delicate lacy tangle! I love the variations! It can be a border, or a reticula! I have been exploring white gel pens on black tiles, this will be a beautiful addition!
