How to draw TRIFLE

Zentangle pattern: Trifle. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. Here’s a supremely simple tangle to kick off our week.

Trifle is from Canadian CZT Margaret Bremner, who has many tangles on the site but it’s been a little while since we’ve had a new one. You will no doubt be familiar with her “And then some” tutorials (see links below).

As Margaret says, the trickiest part of tangling Trifle is getting all the triangles facing the same direction. So — not hard at all!

I call this Trifle because it’s a ‘triangle fill’ (tri-fill).

Trifle can easily fill any shaped section of your Zentangle® tile.

Orbs certainly work using the same concept. In fact when using orbs to fill a space around a tangle, say Flux for example, Rick and Maria advise placing the largest orb first in the space it will fit, then add the remaining orbs in decreasing size from there. This is the same concept Margaret has used with triangles for Trifle.

While Margaret’s directions are to fill the entire background with black once you’ve finished your “triangulation”, I went a different way and inked the outer edge of my “string” and left the center as is, with a little shading. Just to add a little more visual interest (to my eye).

Margaret illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Trifle here on her blog where she features it in two Zentangle tiles with more triangle tangles and a colorful ZIA version.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

Check out the tag margaretb for more of Margaret’s tangles on TanglePatterns.com.

And then some …

Margaret has a wonderful series of tutorials she calls “… and then some” where she takes several Zentangle®-original tangles (aka official tangles) “on a wild ride of variations“. Truly, you do not want to miss these creative and inspirational tutorials. Look for the links to Margaret’s tutorials on these pages:
