Today’s Squiggle tangle comes from Mundelein, Illinois, CZT Lesley Goldberg and it’s her first on the site.
Lesley writes that she was tangling a gift for a friend (shown below), and Squiggles “just came out of my pen …
I named it Squiggles because I used to have an embroidery business many years ago that I called Squiggles and when I asked fellow CZT friend, Susan Mayes for help with the name that is what she came up with.”
Squiggles is somewhat similar to Eddy and the recent Andante, however both of those are continuous wave tangles where Squiggles is a chain of decorated S-shapes giving a different result. Somewhat easier to tangle too, IMHO.
Lesley illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Squiggles below and includes the Zentangle®-original Fengle along with overlapping orbs and a tad of rounding in her Zentangle tile.
Lesley also features Squiggles together with Fengle and Indy-Rella in this sweet pottery piece she tangled as a gift for a friend.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Nice! I really like squiggles! Also, I’m not sure I’ve seen overlapping orbs before–if I have, I’d forgotten–and I really like the looks of those, as well.
I’m really liking Squiggles. I think I’m going to change up my lesson on the basic shapes and
start using it for the “S” shape. I have earrings I bought in Norway that replicate Step 2!
I really like Squiggles, Lesley, so thank you for giving it to our tangling community! And I`m liking Fengle more, too. That was one I learned very early on, sort of abandoned by the roadside, but am coming back to it!
Thanks, I’ve always likes curly q type tangles and this is a fun easy one.
So cute! Makes me think of Bijou in a conga line, lol!
😀 Yes! I agree – that it’s cute and makes me think of Bijou on a conga line. LOL Perfect description. You can tell I like this one too. Very fun. Thank you for sharing this one with us.
Yes! Bijou all dressed up! I can tell this will become a go to tangle for me, thanks!
Really cool! Separate them and they kinda look like abstract butterflies – possible standalone as accents – but the elements do kind of echo our beloved Bijou. Thanks!
TROP TOP
I really love this playful swirly design with its stamen like tendrils reaching out! It’s a fun beautiful pattern that adds a lot of eye catching delight! I am excited to use my new rainbow of sparkely gel pens with this one! Thank you for sharing!
Real cute tangle. Love the pot. Thanks for sharing.
I love Squiggles, thanks so much for sharing. I’m still a newbie to Zentangle but I love it!
Adorable and very festive!! This will make a wonderfully light-hearted border on a tile I have that needs one! 🙂
