How to draw LO’S

Zentangle pattern: LO's. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Today’s tangle LO’s is from Swedish tangler Anita Aspfors Westin who shared her Lenche tangle with us earlier this year.

Anita writes that LO’s was inspired by the first and last initials of a close friend who was in hospice and who recently passed away.

Anita tangled this Zentangle® while thinking of the friend she had just visited for the last time.

and in a remarkable way I felt comfort doing this. …

I believe this is what it is all about. To find the peace deep inside even if things fall apart around oneself. I cannot do anything to stop what is going on, I realize that. But to do Zentangle is a way to face what’s coming and I am really grateful to be able to do this. And every stroke I made … is a prayer, a meditation for L and his family.”

After she finished this Zentangle, Anita came up with LO’s in honor of her friend’s memory.

In my view LO’s is a tangleation of the Zentangle®-original, Eke although Eke is formed by the script lower case letter ‘e’. A simple change of making the loops upright and adding orbs, and the tangle takes on a totally different appearance.

This tangle can be embellished in many ways. It can be used as a ribbon, border, space-filler or a solitare.

Anita illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing LO’s here on her blog and with it she demonstrates some simple ways to vary her tangle. She also features LO’s in a Zentangle with “a little bit of Ipso (Jennifer Hohensteiner)“.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
