What a great tangle we have today from Maryland CZT Lori Manoogian, “Called ’Dillo as the beginning phase looks like an armadillo“.
It’s been a while since Lori shared her Ansu tangle with us, but ’Dillo has been worth the wait.
While ’Dillo may look complicated, it’s very easy, fun to tangle and what a lovely result. Drawing on the strokes of several Zentangle®-original tangles, ’Dillo is “Easy peesy, it’s where flux meets crescent moon with a bit of betweed :-)”, explains Lori.
“I designed this pattern for a shading class I am teaching – I needed a tangle with lots of ‘nooks and crannies’ to show depth and dimension.
The sample I drew is ’Dillo repeated in the center in all directions. Then I used ‘Dillo expanded out, but only in its first stage to show how you can the transition between one pattern to the next and add some air in your piece at the same time.
My only suggestion is to make sure both ends of the pattern taper down to their starting and stopping points.”
Lori illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing ’Dillo below and features it in a beautiful Zentangle. She’s also given suggestions for shading ’Dillo.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity for you to enjoy.

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." I love this! It has lots of energy and movement and fun. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy free flowing patterns such as this. Good job, Lori.
This is such a beautiful pattern! I can’t wait to start my next ZIA so I can incorporate this. 🙂
Outstanding new tangle. Love the possibilities of shading and combining with others. Can’t wait to share it in my classes! Thanks for such beautiful work!
Very nice. I look forward to trying it.
Wow, this is a great tangle! It’s simple yet offers so many possibilities, I definitely want to try it sometime soon!
WOW – really like this one!!
Ohhhhh! this pattern definitely looks like a keeper, I can see it being used just about anywhere on a Zentangle. Thank you Lori and Linda, I am dying to give it a whirl!
wow, this is a really cool tangle. Thanks for sharing.
LOVE THIS! Not too many new patterns come out that are different or tradtional, non-representational- THIS IS GREAT!!!
Love this….. Thank you!!
So excited to try this one out! Thanks!
Wow. Why didn’t I think of that? That’s why I love this site. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
I love this tangle. Thanks!
Lori, in my opinion, this is one of the best & prettiest tangles to be published here in a long time! My hand loves to draw curves and is just itching to try your lovely design! THANK YOU!!
Thanks for sharing. Very nice tangle and will become a favorite I think.
Very lovely! I love armadillos, so this is such perfect fun to tangle with (and I’m not even from Texas ;D). Thank you for your creativity and generosity.
Thanks for this pattern, and this posting also lead me to Ansu, which I really like when done in a cluster.
Lori, this was a lot of fun to do and it is very forgiving. I had a monotangle completed in about 10 minutes. (I never finish in 10 minutes.) Based on its shape I think it will also work tucked in with other tangles in many of our strings. Thank you!!
I’ve been out of town and am just catching up on all the new tangles. I absolutely love this one. I guess when we get it looking good on the first try in the sketch book it’s one we end up loving. 😀 I really love drawing this one. I love the curves. I’ll try it with Molygon too. That will be a great combination.
‘Dillo is one of my favorite tangles.I love using it around gems, especially offset.
Thanks so much, Wendy
I am so glad Linda decided to include Dillo in her Tangle Refresher today. When I first saw it, I was afraid it was difficult to draw, but you break it down well. It does look doable. Thank you so much.

WOW, Dillo is a great tangle pattern. I also love the background pattern which is a simple version of Dillo! Thank you.
‘Dillo is firmly in my Mac ‘n Cheese family! Love the swirl and energy and the cute little guys crawling all over!
A great tangle. After the first fragment it’s easy to get in to the ” one stroke at the time’ mood.Thank you.
I love this tangle. Nice name too. Thank you.
I love this tangle, too, Lori. Armadillos have always been special to me.
Lori,
It’s beautiful; so much movement. Thank you
