Another easy Monday tangle! Binda is from Australian CZT Claire Crook and it’s her first on the site.
Binda came about in a very unusual way. Claire writes, “The tangle developed as I drew around the holes of my ring binder whilst in a loooong meeting. Hence the name ‘binda’.
I live in Sydney Australia and discovered Zentangles when my daughter (then 11) brought one home, a ZIA she had done with her class at school. Not long after I discovered a book on tangling in a local bookstore. That started a passion which led to my being lucky enough to attend CZT #18 in April this year.”
I think every single one of us who has had the opportunity of experiencing the magic of a CZT seminar feels we are, as Claire says, very lucky indeed.
Binda is a clever way to get parallel wavy lines evenly spaced. Rather than draw the lines first, the orbs do a great job of providing guides for your pen’s ups and downs. It’s a lovely ribbony tangle with lots of ways to play and embellish it.
Claire illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Binda below and shows several creative ways to vary this tangle.

You have made Binda look fabulous with your interpretation.
Claire
Tried this out and wow, lots of fun. Thank you!
Claire,
I really like how this tangle flows. I thought it would be hard to get the curves even around the “holes”, but it’s not. And the little differences just make it that much more interesting.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Claire, I really enjoyed your interesting pattern with so many variations. Thanks Noelene
