I loved the minimalist look of this tangle pattern, Tips from WV’s Beth Snoderly. If I’m not mistaken this is the 11th tangle by Beth I’ve added to our collection here on the site.
You can find the rest of Beth’s tangles by clicking her tag (beths) in the left sidebar under the heading FIND PATTERNS BY TAG. Sometimes it’s fun to choose tangles by randomly selecting a tag or two.
Beth writes, “Tips started off as an idea for a border. But after playing with it stacked I liked it better as a pattern. Rows of zigzags with the tip of the triangle colored in. Just like pencil tips touching. Simple but interesting.”
Tips is done in just three simple steps. For my example of this easy grid-based tangle pattern, I’ve rotated it and added a touch of shading. (Dear Santa, Linda needs some new tortillions. Please and thank you.) I played with a version using U-shaped solid “tips” instead of the V shape, and for my money it really didn’t look as striking as Beth’s original version. But it is an interesting variation.
BTW – If you’d like some guidance drawing a grid for your tangles, check out how to draw three types of grids. It includes a free downloadable PDF for your reference. Be sure to read the comments where tangler Susan White has recently added an excellent suggestion for the Freehand Diamond type of grid.
Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Tips below.
Check out the tag beths for more of Beth’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
