How to draw OWLZ

Owlz is a sweet tangle pattern from West Virginia tangler Beth Snoderly. Beth got the inspiration for it when browsing some vector graphics on the web and she abstracted the design from there.

Similar to the recent tangle Bran, Owlz begins with a dot grid joined with curved lines. Then, as you will see below, variations in fills or shading create many different looks. My example here is another variation.

I think the “grid” created by Steps 1-3 could provide the basis for several more quite different and creative tangles. But Owlz is definitely distinctive.

Here Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Owlz and in her Zentangle® features several different variations for you to try. “So many different ways to shade this one to give different looks,” she writes.
