How to draw HAKO

Zentangle pattern: Hako. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.CZT® Lara Williams’ Hako tangle pattern was inspired by a pattern she spotted on a wooden box in the Japanese Village at Epcot.

Epcot is “the second of four theme parks built at Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida. It opened on October 1, 1982, and spans 300 acres (120 ha), more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom park. Epcot is dedicated to the celebration of human achievement, namely technological innovation and international culture“, according to Wikipedia.

Hako reminds me of some other tangles – particularly in Lara’s first example Zentangle® where she adds a bit of a variation, it’s similar to Pane and Zanella. This is another example of a tangle created with a grid “seed”. In my example I stuck to Lara’s basic seed, omitting the connecting X strokes that produce the similarities to the other tangles. Lots of variations possible here too.

Lara illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Hako here on her blog with two examples featuring her tangle pattern, including a very colorful Zentangle tile.

Check out the tag laraw for more of Lara’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.

Greetings. Thank you for sending HAKO. I love your site and look forward to this treat every day. Once again, when I go to the blog with HAKO on it it is blank. Only the header is there.

    Thanks!

Thanks Nina, please try another browser as it appears yours is blocking the sites. Firefox is free and it’s very good. Your ISP might also be slow or overloaded …

Tried to comment on her site but no anonymous profile choice provided. None of my other accounts want to recognize me. Could you tell her for me, I” like it & it looks 3D the way she colored it.”
