How to draw DYZZEE

Zentangle pattern: Dyzzee. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Dyzzee is a tangle pattern created by Florida’s Susan Goetter. “I’ve called it Dyzzee” she writes, “because coloring it in can make you dizzy.” Susan is from the Pensacola area in Florida’s panhandle and this is her first pattern on the site.

I’m in the mood for a little geography today so you’ll have to indulge me. “The Panhandle” is what we Floridians call that big loooong expanse of land across the northwest part of the state, where our state capital Tallahassee is also located.

Many people aren’t aware of just how big a state Florida is. For example, if you were to drive from Key West to Pensacola it’s almost a 900-mile trip and you’re still in the same state. When Robert and I drive to Canada (the Niagara area) from St. Augustine, it’s an 1,100-mile trip and we travel through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, to arrive in Ontario. Fascinating, no? Florida is a BIG state.

On with our new tangle, Dyzzee.

“I’ve loved all types of arts and crafts since I was a child. I love to scrapbook, make cards, knit, crochet, and my newest love…Zentangle®. I discovered Zentangle in July 2011 when I saw the term on someone’s card blog. I’d never heard of Zentangle before, so I did a quick search and was instantly hooked! Much to my surprise and delight, I’ve found another outlet for my creativity! I loved tangling from the first time I tried it. There are so many different tangles out there…all just waiting for me to explore them. In the past six months, I’ve created more than 50 tiles and several larger pieces. In fact, I created tangled pieces with each family’s last name and had each piece framed for each of our children this past Christmas. They loved their gift! What a wonderful way to share with family and friends. As an added bonus, it’s also a wonderful way to relax during the evenings.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a grid-based tangle, so I was pleased to see this one. Dyzzee is another tangle where my “dots tip” comes in very handy – otherwise Dyzzee can be a little “trykkee”. When I was drawing my example I noticed a cool variation of the tangle if I stopped at Step 3 and inked it in a little differently than Susan’s steps. Two for the price of one! 🙂
