How to draw BARBERPOLE

Zentangle pattern: Barberpole. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Suzanne McNeill’s Barberpole tangle appeared in her Zentangle 3 book that features ZIA (Zenangle-Inspired Art) fun with rubber stamps and dozens of new tangle patterns.

Barberpole is a simple and useful pattern with lots of possible variations for very effective borders.

Suzanne illustrates the steps for drawing Barberpole and some variations, here. UPDATE: Early in the Summer of 2014 Suzanne McNeill’s blog was removed and all the posts and images were lost, so this link no longer works.

Her site is being reconstructed as much as possible and until it’s available again, many of her patterns like Barberpole can quite easily be figured out. Have fun challenging your Zentangle® deconstructing abilities!

Some of you might like to learn how to give a pattern such as Barberpole a more three-dimensional appearance. Here is a “Shiny Stripes” tutorial by New Zealand’s talented Jo Newsham, showing you how to do just that.

Check out the tag suzannem for more of Suzanne’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.

    Good Morning Linda,

Today is such a bright sunny and refreshing day. I’m sitting at my dining room table finishing up breakfast, scrolling through the pages of this glorious site to see which combination of tangles I want to create today. I am reminded, as I am always when I visit the site of the massive, really, amount of information contained and wanted to say “Thank You Linda Farmer” for taking the time to post and maintain this beautiful site. I am never lacking for content, stories and of course… tangles. Enjoy your day, be well and be safe!

Thanks so much for your lovely comment and your wishes, Vera. This coming Monday (the 4th) is the 10th “Tangleversary” of the site and I too am amazed at the resource it has become! Enjoy your tangled Saturday 🙂
