It’s always my goal to feature a variety of types of tangles each week and also tangles with varying amounts of complexity.
In contrast to Monday’s radial-style Su-Sy tangle, today we have Diamante, an easy border or ribbon-style tangle that gets a lot of punch from a little shading.
Diamante is shared with us by Peyton, Colorado CZT Carol Therrien and it’s her first tangle on the site.
Carol writes,
2017 was a year of many firsts for me. I became a CZT in April (CZT26). YAY!
Then recently my husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, and we traveled out of the country for the first time. We went to Costa Rica and it was there, at Diamante Eco Adventure Park that I saw the railing that I deconstructed for this pattern – thus the name, Diamante.
Diamante is a border pattern but can also be used stacked. Depending on the spacing and the shading used it can give you very different looks.
The shading in the aura’d areas is quite versatile as you can block it in with black ink, use pencil shading or fill it with tangles.
Carol illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Diamante below and she demonstrates some variations in a duotangle Zentangle® tile with the Zentangle-original tangle Printemps.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.
Check out the tag carolt for more of Carol’s tangles on TanglePatterns.com.

Like some help with shading your Zentangles?
It's fun and easy — forget about traditional "art rules" for shading, this is Zentangle and those rules do not apply!
As we are coached in the chapter on Shading in the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, "Ignore the light source ... in Zentangle shading we do not consider the type or direction of the light source. ... More often, shading is a component of the tangle itself that we use to play with dimension, emphasis, and contrast."

I’ve seen few newer tangles that tempt me to draw them but I like this one a lot. It’s easy to draw, non representational and very versatile. And who doesn’t love diamonds! Thanks, Carol! Getting out my pen now…
A great-looking border.Thanks for sharing!
I especially like Diamante with Printemps drawn behind. And kudos on getting your CZT.
Carol, I think Anna said it all! Very simple, but very versatile. Thanks for deconstructing that pattern for us.
This will be fun and versatile. Thanks Carol and congrats on 25 years and becoming a CZT all at the same time. Keep on traveling, there is a wide world out there to explore with lots of tangles to be found.
I too love this pattern and cannot wait to try it out. Thank you Carol.
I like this pattern too, indeed very simple but beautiful to use as a border.
Linda Farmer,
Thank you for publishing my first deconstructed tangle and starting another year of firsts for me in 2018!
I also want to thank everyone for all your kind words. I hope you all enjoy Diamante as much as I do!
Carol Therrien, CZT26
Congrats, Carol! We went to the same seminar, and we both have our 1st tangle on January 2018. 2017 was a wonderful year and we are on the good way from the beginning of this just started 2018. Cheers!
