How to draw LO’S

Zentangle pattern: LO's. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Today’s tangle LO’s is from Swedish tangler Anita Aspfors Westin who shared her Lenche tangle with us earlier this year.

Anita writes that LO’s was inspired by the first and last initials of a close friend who was in hospice and who recently passed away.

Anita tangled this Zentangle® while thinking of the friend she had just visited for the last time.

and in a remarkable way I felt comfort doing this. …

I believe this is what it is all about. To find the peace deep inside even if things fall apart around oneself. I cannot do anything to stop what is going on, I realize that. But to do Zentangle is a way to face what’s coming and I am really grateful to be able to do this. And every stroke I made … is a prayer, a meditation for L and his family.”

After she finished this Zentangle, Anita came up with LO’s in honor of her friend’s memory.

In my view LO’s is a tangleation of the Zentangle®-original, Eke although Eke is formed by the script lower case letter ‘e’. A simple change of making the loops upright and adding orbs, and the tangle takes on a totally different appearance.

This tangle can be embellished in many ways. It can be used as a ribbon, border, space-filler or a solitare.

Anita illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing LO’s here on her blog and with it she demonstrates some simple ways to vary her tangle. She also features LO’s in a Zentangle with “a little bit of Ipso (Jennifer Hohensteiner)“.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

How to locate tangles by artist or type on TanglePatterns

Did you know you can easily find TANGLES BY ARTIST and TANGLES BY TYPE on TanglePatterns? Each tangle has its tags listed as live links in the date bar just above the comments section on each page. The date bar looks like this screen capture: tanglepatterns-date-bar Scroll down on any tangle's page and click on those live links in the date bar to get to similar types of tangles and to find tangles by the same artist. In the Desktop Version of the site there's also a section called TANGLES BY TYPE in the LEFT sidebar of any page as shown in this image at the green arrow.

finding-tangles-by-type Scroll to that section in the sidebar, click the down arrow and select the type of tangle you're looking for, and a new page will open with the list of all the tangles of that type. (TANGLES BY ARTIST are located directly below there.)

Feel like choosing tangles at random for your Zentangle® art?

There are four ways to do this on the site.
  • First, there's a RANDOM TANGLE SELECTOR in the left sidebar with instructions on how to use it. This handy gadget can be used to select Zentangle®-original tangles from this page and it can also be used to select random Strings. Just type in the number range you want to select from.
  • Second, just below it there's a TANGLE RANDOMIZER that has already selected 5 random tangles to use.
  • Third, many like to use the tangles listed at the end of every tangle in the "You might also like:" section of the page.
  • Fourth, use the selection of tangles in any TANGLE REFRESHER. This is a great way to revisit tangles you've forgotten about or might have missed when they were originally posted.
Be sure to check out all the features that are hidden in plain sight in the sidebars on both sides of every page. And let's not forget the main menu bar across the top of every page — there's a lot of great reading and learning there that you won't want to miss.
