How to draw CHECHAIN

Zentangle pattern: Chechain. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. All rights reserved.Chechain is an interesting and unusual tangle from Australian Lila Popcheff who shared her X tangle with us some time ago.

Very often I have strange coincidences happen to me (or maybe it’s just me who considers them odd). In any case …

Later in the evening after I drew my Chechain example, Robert and I were binge-watching episodes of one of our favorite TV series The Closer. And there in one of the scenes I spotted Chechain wallpaper! I was so surprised to see the pattern I’d just been working on that we paused and rewound, and I snapped this shot of the TV screen. What are the odds??

I’ve no idea if this is what inspired Lila, however abstract wallpaper and carpets patterns do occasionally inspire a tangle or two …

Lila illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Chechain here on flickr where she shows a wide range of possible variations for her tangle, including starting with either a double or single line version at Step 1.

I love this tangle, Lila! I also very much enjoyed browsing through your Flickr photostream. You are very inventive! And Linda … what a fun coincidence! I too have many photos of hotel carpets for tangling inspiration. 🙂

I’d say that was a pretty odd coincidence!

  • Hi Linda, Thanks so much for adding Chechain to your collection on TanglePatterns. There was no particular inspiration for me, just a series of lines and diamonds and the rest followed (I rarely watch television and have not seen The Closer – I don’t even know if we get it here lol). I revisited this pattern in May of this year (2015). I don’t post regularly on Flickr any more, however you may find both versions with some examples of my work on my blog Poppiespenpics.blogspot.com – Thanks again 🙂

Thanks Jan – I hope you find some time to test it out for yourself.
