Here’s a tangle pattern from another Aussie tangler — there are getting to be a LOT of Zentangle® fans down under!
All About V is from Ksenija Vojisavljevic, and it’s her first pattern on the site. When I asked about her unusual name and how to pronounce it she tells me it is of Serbian origin and in both names the J should be pronounced as Y in the word ‘yes’.
“As my surname starts on the letter V, my hand would move in the shape of V for years so the tangle popped up quite spontaneously.
I live in Melbourne Australia with my husband, two grown up daughters and several pets. I left my career in engineering of 15 years to go back to my passion for arts, children and teaching. For last fifteen years I have been teaching piano for AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board).
I found out about Zentangle from the DVD ‘Learn Zentangle Inspired Quilting’ with Jane Monk that came with the magazine Australian Quilters Companion. I have always had an attraction for beautiful patterns in nature, buildings, mathematics, and I love to look at patterns of knitting and crocheting. Zentangle suits me the best and I enjoy it tremendously. I have a great admiration for wonderful and talented people from Zentangle community.“
All About V takes a lot more focus than you might think. In fact eventually after covering a page with attempts I ended up combining Ksenija’s Steps 2 and 3 below into 1 — otherwise my V’s ended up lumpy. But then my V’s also have straighter lines than Ksenija’s curvy ones and your results may differ. Shading gives this tangle a little pop.
Here are Ksenija’s step-by-step instructions for drawing her All About V tangle pattern, along with some lovely border variations for you to try. Thanks for sharing, Ksenija!

Message for Ksenija — you’re not a Certified Zentangle Teacher by any chance? My daughter and I have been looking for a Zentangle class in Melbourne.
Hi Lisa, you can find the list of CZTs here on the zentangle website.
Thanks Linda! I did not know about that. Much appreciated.

Those tangles are just gorgeous! Thanks so much for yet more beautiful patterns to play with.
Hi, new to the art form and this is one of the tangles I’ve found myself using quite a bit. I discovered that it was Much easier to draw for me if make a row of *horizontal* v’s – aka a line of zig-zags – echoed by another row underneath and then connected in the same method as the step-out. I think I did this by accident the first time trying to remember the steps, and it has felt far more natural to me ever since. It looks pretty similar when complete.
I guess the name of the tangle refers to the great movie by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. At the same time, it pays homage to the initial of the author’s last name and its character as a unique motif in the design. A great name for an excellent tangle. It is basic and at the same time with great effect. I agree with Linda Farmer’s simplification of steps. Joining steps 2 and 3 makes it easier. Very good, Ksenija.
