Golven is the Dutch word for waves, writes Dutch calligrapher Mariët Lustenhouwer about her tangle pattern. Mariët also created the Gothic and Fish Net tangles.
There are many tangles using a zig zag line as the starting point and most use some type of lines running parallel to those initial strokes. Golven takes a different tack with curves going perpendicular to the zig zag.
The fun with this one is keeping the curves aligned so they appear to flow in waves behind the zig zag. Shading adds a nice pop. Golven makes a good border and you can play with back-to-back repeats for interesting effects (disclosure: Photoshopped from the original above to illustrate one possible repeat). Nice tangle!
