How to draw GOLVEN

Zentangle pattern: GolvenGolven is the Dutch word for waves, writes Dutch calligrapher Mariët Lustenhouwer about her tangle pattern. Mariët also created the Gothic and Fish Net tangles.

There are many tangles using a zig zag line as the starting point and most use some type of lines running parallel to those initial strokes. Golven takes a different tack with curves going perpendicular to the zig zag.

Zentangle pattern: GolvenThe fun with this one is keeping the curves aligned so they appear to flow in waves behind the zig zag. Shading adds a nice pop. Golven makes a good border and you can play with back-to-back repeats for interesting effects (disclosure: Photoshopped from the original above to illustrate one possible repeat). Nice tangle!

Mariët illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing her Golven tangle, here.
