How to draw SANIBELLE

Zentangle pattern: SanibelleThe lovely tangle pattern Sanibelle was created by Rhode Island-based CZT® Tricia Faraone, and this is her first pattern on TanglePatterns.

When asked to tell us about her pattern, Tricia writes, “I don’t remember exactly why or how I began to pen this shell-inspired tangle, but as I look back at some of the tangles that I have been drawing since last summer, I find this tangle pattern in many of them.

Every year my husband and I travel to Florida for a vacation week, and a few times we were lucky enough to stay ‘on the beach’ on beautiful Sanibel Island.  The Sanibel beaches offer an abundance of sea shells that the Gulf of Mexico floats to its shores……  so, in honor of this little slice of heaven on earth, the tangle is called Sanibelle.”

Sanibelle is fun to draw and as with many tangles it comes to life with a little shading to add dimension. It makes a great border as Tricia demonstrates and it also offers interesting possibilities for embellishment for variation.

Tricia illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing her tangle pattern Sanibelle here, along with a sample Zentangle-inspired 6″x6″ tile using it.

  • This is such a cute pattern, Tricia!

  • Thanks for this wonderful pattern. I’ve lived in Washington state for nearly 30 years, but my parents, in St. Louis, discovered Sanibel Island in the mid-80s. We had several family reunions there into the 1990s and we all loved it. This tangle is very evocative of those amazing shell-strewn beaches. Would love to visit again sometime…with tangle tiles in hand!
