How to draw W2

Zentangle pattern: W2. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.W2, for Warp and Weft, is a Zentangle®-original tangle pattern from originators Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.

W2 is one of several tangles resembling weaving that are great fun to draw and have potential for interesting variations with shading etc.

CZT® Suzanne McNeill shows us how to draw this tangle here. UPDATE: Early in the Summer of 2014 Suzanne McNeill’s blog was removed and all the posts and images were lost. The site is being reconstructed as much as possible but the links will no longer be the same. Many of her patterns  can quite easily be figured out. For those that might be a little more difficult, Suzanne has graciously given me permission to post her copyright-protected images on TanglePatterns for your convenience.

How to draw the Zentangle®-original tangle W2

Please feel free to refer to the step outs to recreate this tangle in your Zentangles and ZIAs, or link back to this page. However the artist and TanglePatterns.com reserve all rights to these images and they should not be pinned, reproduced or republished. Thank you for respecting these rights.

For a variant of W2, visit the Huggins page. Huggins uses curved lines connecting dots, rather than the straight lines connecting squares of W2. In the comments on Huggins, tangler Kim Gabriel gives more tips on how to draw these two tangles.

Update November 15, 2017: CZT Margaret Bremner has added one of her fantastic “and then some” tutorials for W2 here on her blog.
