How to draw ASOH

Greetings everyone!

A very happy Wednesday to you, and this is a very special one.

I particularly wanted a heart-themed tangle because (drum-roll) … today’s my Sweetheart Robert’s birthday! We will be honoring the occasion this evening with a fine wine and a chef-prepared dinner … he’s the chef! 🙂 Happy Birthday my Love, and heartfelt thanks for all that you are, not just to me but to all who are fortunate enough to know the sweetness that is you.

Asoh – a string of hearts – is a lovely tangle from Taiwan CZT Damy Teng. Damy has just a ton of great tangles on the site so be sure to check them out, you’ll find them at damyt in the TANGLES BY ARTIST section and in the live link below in the date bar for today’s post.

Damy writes that as she was exploring a variation of the Zentangle-original Noom she came up with Asoh. “It looks like A string of hearts, so it is named Asoh.” In this colorful ZIA Zendala tile Damy demonstrates the two together and an interesting variation or two.

In this series of images, Damy illustrates the progression of her ribbon/circle of Asoh from start through to the completion of her beautiful Zentangle tile.

Asoh is both simple and just a little tricky at the same time. In Steps 3 and 4, as long as you look to see where the logical extension of the top part of the heart shape will come, then they’ll work out just fine. A simple S shape connects adjacent hearts (Step 5) and is completed with the the solid fill to create the “link”, Noom-style.

Damy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Asoh below and she includes her finished tile from above.
