Taiwan CZT Mina (Ping-Min) Hsiao is back today with her Auracross tangle. Mina now has many lovely tangles on the site.
Auracross is very similar to Kym Barlow’s Quiltz tangle but it goes a bit further, making the tangle more visually complex. Mina’s method of deconstruction for Auracross is also different from Quiltz.
Mina points out that Auracross is composed of the elemental stroke of a straight line together with auras. She advises to turn your tile at Step 3 to more easily complete this tangle.
Mina illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Auracross below and she includes three different monotangles demonstrating various ways to alter the tangle simply though adding graphite and/or solid ink throughout the tangle.
Lots of ways to change up this tangle! Each variation has different optical effects as the light and dark contrasts focus the eyes on different aspects of the tangle and add dimension. In some cases the Zentangle® tile almost appears folded.
In response to CZT Sally Houghton’s question below in the comments, Mina sent this revised image along with this explanation: “I think both of them are right. She can choose a way to draw it. I made the line closest to the X first, and add second and third lines (shown below). I felt this method is easier to me. Turning the tile is important step to draw this pattern.”
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.
Check out the tag minah for more of Mina’s tangles on TanglePatterns.com.

This is a beautiful tangle and I’m excited to give it a try. Just wondering if you should start with the line closest to the X or the one farthest away from the X. Any tips on that?
Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Sally, lovely to see you! Not sure if we’ll hear from Mina so I’ll give this a go. I don’t think it matters much which of the two you do, but I made the line closest to the X first, then added the one farthest away and that way the third line can be placed evenly in the middle between them. Hope that helps! Cheers, Linda
Thank you Mina, it is beautiful, and it’s so kind of you experts to share your knowledge with us beginners. I began tangling 2 weeks ago and am loving it and I really appreciate the help available on this site.
This is a beautiful pattern! It reminds me of Kaleidoscope. Thank you for sharing, I am anxious to give it a try!
Beautiful pattern!

Oh, I like the Variation–may add to my favorites! Thank you!
This tangle is amazing. I have been working it for awhile now, and the more I do, the more ways I find to do this. Sure, the basic strokes are all the same, but the ways to highlight different elements are are nearly endless. As soon as I discover one way to highlight certain elements, then I see more ways. You can play with this for a long time and get different results. Thank you, Mina for this great design.
