We launch this week with a reminder that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For starters, if you’re overdue for a mammogram, please pick up the phone and book your appointment.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign that’s held every October. The month aims to promote screening and reduce the risk of the disease, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide. Known best for its pink theme color, the month features a number of campaigns and programs.
Canadian tangler Cyndi Knapp shares Heartish tangle with us along with her sweet reminder to Think Pink!
The idea for this pattern came to me in the night. It’s a pretty simple ribbon pattern that has some fill possibilities and would be suitable as a border or intermingled with other patterns.

After I finished the steps and the Zentangle® monotangle tile to go with them, I could kind of see heart shapes so it was named Heartish. I thought to submit the pattern for February until I coloured this second Zentangle illustration:Immediately, the magenta pink and the ribbon shape I’d tangled made me think of the Breast Cancer ribbon. So…
The submission was moved to October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month as a dedication to my 43-year survivor friend KEC and other friends. And, to everyone who’s been affected in any way by breast cancer.
Think Pink!
Heartish is similar to Taiwan CZT Mina Hsiao’s continuous line 2-S tangle but the construction method and end result are different enough to make it a worthy addition to our resouce.
Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Heartish below where she includes her zenbutton-ish monotangle.
