It’s Friday AND at long last it’s SUMMER!! What could be better than that.
Canadian tangler Cyndi Knapp is back with another of her many fun deconstructions, this one called Ovo is not only a ribbon-style tangle but it can also be used as a grid-based one. We love our versatile tangles!
Ovo can also be changed up in a variety of ways, Cyndi shows us a few suggestions in this colorful Bijou ZIA tile.
Cyndi shares some background on Ovo as well as suggestions for how you might think about using it in your Zentangle® art.
There’s no inspiration or story to share for OVO – the idea just came to me while tangling and the name reflects its basic element shapes. This is a very easy pattern that lends itself to some fill possibilities and tangles well as a ribbon. When tangled in rows, it forms a grid as shown (with auras) in this tile.
Although it was unintentional, OVO is a tangleation with obvious elements of Facets. When I checked TanglePatterns for duplicates, I noticed it also had a similarity to DiaRay (Step 2). But it wasn’t until I poured over the 2024 Tangle Guide that I found I’d totally missed the resemblance to Jules!
On that note … I’d like to encourage every tangler to buy Linda’s Tangle Guide for yourself and/or as a gift for someone else. It goes hand and hand with TanglePatterns as the Tangle Guide images hyperlink to their publications. What I really love about the Guide is that the visual images of all the patterns are right there in front of me … I’m constantly rediscovering old favourites and discovering new ones whether they were published recently or not. Best of all, other than a donation, it’s a small way to support Linda and help keep TanglePatterns going! Think about how often you use this invaluable tangle resource.
Thanks so much for that lovely (uncoerced!) endorsement, Cyndi. It goes without saying that each Guide purchase helps me keep TanglePatterns going and I’m very grateful for each and every one. If you don’t already have your copy of the TanglePatterns TANGLE GUIDE 2024 Edition, your support at this time would be especially welcome and appreciated 😉
Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Ovo below where she features it on a Renaissance Tan tile with “Arrow Point (v), Bubbles, and Florz (v)”.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.
