Greetings my tangling friends and welcome back!
I trust you enjoyed a lovely weekend, it was a very warm one here in North America and, as I understand it, a pretty chilly one down under as we approach their customarily coldest month of the year.
Our sweet and easy heart-based Oao tangle is from Japanese tangler Kaori Nagasaku and it’s her first on the site.
And in case you’re wondering, I totally did not have a plan to follow Friday’s Ovo with Oao, it was just one of those odd/cool things that worked out that way. 🙂
Kaori introduces herself and her Oao hearts-and-spirals tangle:
I discovered Zentangle® a year ago. I was amazed that even without artistic skills, I could create intricate and beautiful drawings. While drawing Zentangles, I can focus entirely, and all my thoughts vanish, leaving my mind clear.
Since then, Zentangle has become an indispensable part of my life, and I’m determined to attend the CZT seminar in November 2024.
I’m a mother to an elementary school daughter who is in credibly precious and irreplaceable to me. Thinking of my daughter, I created this new tangle.
The tangle is named “OAO”, which stands for “One And Only”. This name reflects my wish for my daughter to feel confident and unique every day.
It also carries the message that everyone is a One-of-a-kind presence in this world.
Also one-of-a-kind is my precious sister Carol who is celebrating her birthday today, so Kaori’s heart tangle is well timed. Carol was my extra special birthday present as she was born the day after my second birthday. Our late Mom and Dad always made sure that each of us – including our younger sisters Karen and Bev – felt we are precious and one-of-a-kind, one-and-only’s, each in our own way. Happy Birthday, Carol!
Kaori Nagasaku illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Oao below and her tile demonstrates several ways to explore her delicate tangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
