How to draw C-CROCHET

Hi there my tangling friends.

I don’t know about you but I’m so enjoying seeing each day get a little more daylight, reassures me Spring days are on their way 🙂

Our lovely Friday tangle comes with a touching and heartfelt tribute for a lost friend.

C-crochet is from Japanese CZT Michiyo Kirita and it’s her first on the site.

Michiyo explains how she got her inspiration for this tangle,

This pattern came up to me a long time ago inspired by designs on traditional Turkish costumes.

[Recently] my best friend passed away. She loved my Zentangle® work very much and always encouraged me to draw more often.

But I once lost my passion for drawing because I couldn’t enjoy it. When I started having Zentangle classes continuously, I was busy making plans for them.

When I picked up a pen, I no longer enjoyed drawing, it became a duty at that time. For the last two years, I had been struggling with that, but my best friend’s death had me pick up a pen again. I wanted to draw something for her and present it to her in her coffin.

I am now suffering from deep sorrow, but trying to have it together. I appreciate that I have met Zentangle. When I’m drawing, it brings me peace in my heart.

Such a sad loss for Michiyo, but such a beautiful tribute to her best friend.

C-crochet can be a little challenging at first but if you note that the top edge of one C-shape aligns over the bottom edge of the C-shape to the right of it (have a close look at Step 2), you’re on the way to getting it set up to work out evenly.

Michiyo illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing C-crochet below where she features it in three lovely Zentangle tiles. In the first she shows how layering back-to-back rows can fill a space, in the second she features it as a focal tangle with the Zentangle-originals Icanthis and Printemps, and in the third she shows it as ribbon with auras and a variation on the “petal” fills with Knightsbridge hearts.
