Hello there my tangling friends!
Welcome back for another great tangle from Spanish CZT Tomàs Padrós.
Tomàs’s Nudora is his 39th tangle on the site. Be sure to check out his collection of fun, whimsical, pretty and/or challenging tangles.
He writes,
This pattern was born as a hexagonal fragment when I dedicated myself to studying the different methods of creating hexagonal networks and that can be found as a complement by searching for the Tau tangle on tanglepatterns.com.
The name is completely invented but resonates with the Catalan word “nus”, or the Spanish “nudo”, which mean knot. The ending “ora” sweetens the name.
The effect of drawing the fragment in a network generates a sensation of complex intertwining.
As Tomàs notes be sure to check out his Tau tangle where he’s gathered together several ways to approach the construction of hexagonal grids based on ways other contributors have deconstructed for their tangles. The referenced approaches are also linked to those original tangles too. You can download his step-by-step illustration for your reference on the Tau page.
Sweet name, sweet tangle. For my example of Nudora I used Tomas’s simple trio version in his steps below.
Tomàs illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Nudora below where he features it in a gorgeous tile. As is often the case with his tangles, his skill with shading to bring them to life is a star of the show.

In the next illustration Tomàs shows how to create Nudora inspired by the deconstruction of the Zentangle-original Quandary.
The simplest method to draw it is precisely from a network of hexagons (as shown above), but you can also create a hexagonal version of Quandary. This way the corners of the polygons are eliminated and the possibility of attractive arrangements increases. Of course, mastering Quandary networks requires practice and patience. They do not come out the first time.
