How to draw VITRAUX

Hi there my tangling friends and welcome back to another fun week of tangle inspiration.

We start off this week with a two-tangle bonus. These are sister tangles deconstructed by Canadian tangler Cyndi Knapp. Cyndi has many excellent tangles and tutorials on the site be sure to check them out.,

The first of today’s additions is named Vitraux and its sister tangle Verrerie will appear in your inbox shortly.

Cyndi describes how she came up with Vitraux and its name,

This grid pattern was a pre-dawn idea to tangle Bekk in a box. I wasn’t sure if my air tangling would translate well on paper and was delighted that it did.

It’s simple to tangle and works up more quickly than you might think. Step 4 is more of a tip — by drawing/aligning perimeter lines at this point, you end up with a more polished look despite any irregularities of the lines in Step 5. It’s super for backgrounds or even ribbons and medallions.

As for the name … when this tangleation’s Monotangle was finished, it made me think of stained glass windows which is Vitraux (vit-ro) in French.

Tangles used in the Zendala: Ferne, Hammersmith, Mymuze (v) and Sand Swirl.

Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Vitraux below. She notes her monotangle was done with “the Tombow Splash Technique using #133 green & #373 blue and a royal blue Micron”.
