How to draw ARGUI

Lovely to see you again and delighted you’re here for another sweet tangle.

Today’s Argui is the second tangle on the site by Spanish tangler Itxaso Ruiz. If curious, you can learn how to pronounce her name by checking out her first tangle, Bilbotarra.

Itxaso writes,

I’ve been inspired for creating Argui by a tile wall that I have seen in my holiday time in Gran Canary island, more specifically in a town called Arguineguin.

Every time I travel, I take photographs of wall drawings, pavement tiles, church roofs… And I see Zentangle patterns everywhere!

I have deconstructed Argui as a central diamond with an aura surrounded by four ovals with their auras. Around each oval, I draw a form with curvy lines. And in the end, some fescus.

We can make some variations like change the central shape and draw a circle or a triangle instead a diamond; draw Argui as a border or a fragment…

Itxaso illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Argui below

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. This is beautiful. It reminds me of embroidery patterns. Thank you.

The tiles of artwork demonstrating Argui are so inspirational and gorgeous! They gave me lots of ideas for my own tiles and I’m enjoying seeing all the ways Argui can be played with <3
