How to draw ICO

May chocolate bunnies (a)bound in your days 😉

Our cool tangle today is named Ico and it’s from Japanese CZT Aya Sasaki. It’s her first on the site.

I’m thinking Ico has symbolism synchronicity with the history honored by Christians this weekend, Holy Trinity and so on.

In this simple tile, the Zentangle-original Onamato is combined with something Flux to fill the woven bands of Ico.

Aya writes:

I am Japanese. I live in Bangalore India.

I send you a new tangle, I hope tanglers around the world will enjoy it.

At first glance Ico might appear a bit complicated to tangle.  But if you note that in Step 2 the curved aura starts directly above the far end of the adjacent rice shape, the rest will fall nicely into place. I was very tempted to add Doodah to my example but in the end decided on the minimalist approach …

Aya illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Ico below and she demonstrates it in a lovely tile with the Zentangle-original Hibred. As Aya demonstrates in both of her examples, Ico makes a pretty “string” to embellish with other tangles.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.
