Hello there my tangling friends!
Thanks so much for keeping me company again for another week of fun tangles.
Today’s “graceful” Arcadio is from Filipino CZT Grace Anore and it’s her first on the site. Grace is from Manila and the only CZT listed in the Philippines. She’s a member of the CZT EU5 seminar class.
Grace explains the inspiration for her tangle and how she named it,
The inspiration for this tangle is a plant with a beautiful yellow flower we call Mani-Manian, but globally it is called Arachis. I’ve always seen it along roads and sprawling lawns being used instead of grass, but only last year when I decided to make it an inspiration did I decide to know its name.
We know the Arachis genus more commonly for its peanuts. [So this is what Skippy looks like on its way to my breakfast toast!] Wikipedia tells us:
Arachis is a genus of about 70 species of annual and perennial flowering plants in the family (Fabaceae), native to South America … At least one species, the peanut (Arachis hypogaea), is a major food crop species of global importance; some of the other species are cultivated for food to a small extent in South America.
From Wikipedia’s Peanut entry:
The peanut (Arachis hypogaea), also known as the groundnut, goober (US), pindar (US) or monkey nut (UK), is a legume crop grown mainly for its edible seeds. It is widely grown in the tropics and subtropics, important to both small and large commercial producers.
Returning to Grace’s Arcadio tangle, she explains:
Arcadio is a tangle that is very simple and yet very rewarding to create.
Since the plant is known internationally as Arachis, I am naming this tangle after my father Arcadio. He was my biggest fan and would always encourage me to draw. He was diagnosed with cancer in September 2021. In November 2022, I became a CZT. However, he passed in February 2022 and I couldn’t show him most of my creations after becoming a CZT. When I created this tangle in June 2022 I was thinking of him. I would like to honor him through this.
Grace illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Arcadio below where she features it in a sweet duotangle with the Zentangle®-original Flux.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. This is lovely, and will also be a constant memory of your father.
What a beautiful tangle and perfectly named in memory of your father <3 I’m sure he’d be very proud of your first tangle being published, and being the first CZT in the Philippines! Bravo on your accomplishments!
