Hello friends, it’s Friday and a long weekend here in the USA for many as we observe Presidents’ Day on Monday. As far as I can tell, it’s a good excuse for a winter long weekend and mattress and appliance sales 😉
Today’s lovely Kruller tangle is from NY CZT Jody Genovese and it’s her two-dozenth (is that a word?) on the site! All wonderful creative and fun inspiration …
Jody writes,
I had pulled out a journal I hadn’t used in a while. It is always fun to look through and see what I have drawn. I had this started in there and so kept playing with it.
No real story except that I was hungry when I was drawing it and it looked like a French Kruller so… ?
I wanted to glaze it and eat it.
For those not familiar with French Crullers, in the US these donuts/doughnuts are usually found at Dunkin’ Donuts.
According to Wikipedia, which also includes a run-down on where you can get them:
A French cruller is a fluted, ring-shaped doughnut made from choux pastry with a light airy texture. The German Spritzkuchen is very similar, while the Dutch and Belgian sprits is baked instead of being fried.
For my example of Kruller I was guided by Jody’s alternate favorite version shown below … I might have gone a little off track here and there … but “no mistakes” and who can tell? (Besides Jody.) I have a sudden urge for coffee …
Jody illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Kruller below. Jody includes 3 beautiful ZIA tiles featuring Kruller and in the very last steps box she shows us an alternate way (her favorite) of adding the auras in Step 4. Her variation suggestions include making a smaller center in Step 1, varying the line length in Step 2, changing the center shape in Step 1, and “finish all auras on a line before starting next line” in Step 4. In her examples I see the Zentangle®-originals Crescent Moon, Printemps, Diva Dance, Knightsbridge and Tipple.
