How to draw HEARTBLOSSOM

Hello my tangling friends, lovely to see you again and I hope your week has been a good one …

Today’s pretty tangle is called Heartblossom and it’s one from the archives by North Carolina novelist and tangler Jenna Black.

Heartblossom makes an even dozen tangles on the site deconstructed by Jenna, most recently we explored her fun and unusual Turkital. To learn more about Jenna check out her first tangle on the site, Whalestail.

Jenna explains that Heartblossom is a tangleation of another heart-based tangle from Australian tangler Helen Williams,

I keep debating with myself as to whether this is a new tangle or just a version of Heartfully, by Helen Williams. (It was certainly inspired by that pattern.) …

I feel like the contour lines (and shading) give it a unique look. Plus, it’s drawn freehand rather than in a grid.

Heartblossom also shares DNA with Jenna’s own Cross-UR-Heart though they are tangled in completely different ways.

Jenna illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Heartblossom below and she includes a “tile with a variation of the same pattern with fewer hearts.” Jenna’s tile includes the Zentangle®-original Zinger and a variation of Rixty cross-pollinated with a curvy Pokeroot … shall we call this tangleation Rixtyroot? 😉
