Today’s Tancee is from UK CZT Debra Figg who recently shared her Posie tangle with us.
Debra describes Tancee as “a grid-based tangle which uses two strokes, a line and a gentle C curve.”
Debra introduces her Tancee tangle and gives us some tips on tangling it as well as making variations:
Once the grid is drawn, divide each section with lines (resembling a T shape) and add some weighting. A gentle C curve, followed by an aura completes the pattern.
These strokes gave the pattern its name – “Tee” and “Cee” became Tancee.
A tip when drawing this, is not to make your grid too small. I also found that if I drew all the gentle C curves first then went back and drew all the aura curves, I gained a more consistently spaced aura, with the lines joining up neatly across the sections.
Used as a monotangle, there are many ways to add more detail and drama such as hatching, shading and colour. Varying the central section, by adding more lines or rounding, also creates a different finish.
By using only part of the pattern, it can also become a border, as shown on this Zendala tile.
And finally, enlarging just one section creates a string – in my example I have combined with Munchin, Knightsbridge, orbs and Bales.
Debra illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Tancee below and she includes a simple monotangle of her tangle.
