How to draw CONEGLOBE

Zentangle pattern: Coneglobe. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Hello again friends!

Today’s Coneglobe tangle is from Slovenian tangler Duška Bacani and it’s her first on the site.

Duška introduces herself:

I live in a small village near Pragersko in Slovenija, Europe. I work in a small company near my home, I live with my partner for the last 23 years.

Since I can remember, I paint, I draw, I create… My grandfather was a painter and I learned a lot from him.

My favourite way to create art is to paint nature , landscapes, animals, flowers … with oil or acrylic on a wood or canvas.

I make also mandalas, I love to paint on rocks and small pieces of wood. Why ? Because I have already so many canvases and wooden boards that I am already running out of storage space. My friends, my family have my paintings everywhere on their walls and it is easier to give as a present to someone a small painted rock or a small piece of wood than another painting …

Not a single day goes by for me without drawing, painting, … because it makes me calm, happy and its the best way to release stress and forget all bad things.

Few years ago I heard about Zentangle® from a friend. I have already made some works in which I used zentangle patterns.

The Wikipedia entry for Slovenia is amazingly detailed for this small country with a population of approximately 2.1 million people.

Slovenia is a country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the southeast, and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. Slovenia is mostly mountainous and forested. …

Present-day Slovenia has been inhabited since prehistoric times. There is evidence of human habitation from around 250,000 years ago. A pierced cave bear bone, dating from 43100 ± 700 BP, found in 1995 in Divje Babe cave near Cerkno, is considered a kind of flute, and possibly the oldest musical instrument discovered in the world.

I confess that until I read the Wikipedia entry my only prior knowledge of the country was as a result of following professional cycling where two of Duška’s countrymen have gained recent acclaim:

In cycling, Primož Roglic became the first Slovenian to win a Grand Tour when he won the 2019 Vuelta a España. In 2020 [and 2021], Tadej Pogacar won the Tour de France, the world’s most competitive cycling race, while Primož Roglic finished second in 2020.

Duška’s Coneglobe reminded me of CZT Carole Ohl’s Tuftid for the impression of movement or tension it projects. As I wrote about Tuftid, “It’s always amazing to me how a few simple lines can convey a strong sensory impression. CZT® Carole Ohl’s Tuftid tangle pattern conveys to me a sense of powerful energy pulling in opposite directions.”

The tangle enhancer we call rounding is an important element in creating that visual sense with Coneglobe. The small nature of my example didn’t do much justice to Coneglobe and I’ll be practicing this one again for sure.

In her very cool Zentangle-inspired (ZIA) monotangle of Coneglobe Duška has done a great job of layering its elements in a composition giving a sense of dimension.

Duška illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Coneglobe below and she includes another simple monotangle of her tangle.

How to submit your pattern to TanglePatterns

Everyone is invited to submit patterns, you do NOT need to be a CZT. In order for patterns to be considered for TanglePatterns.com they must be submitted to me by email. In other words you have to let me know about them.

From The Book of Zentangle:

Keep it Non-representational. Zentangle artwork is intended to be non-representational. Zentangle’s elemental strokes are also non-representational.

We don’t teach complex elements such as hearts, stars or flowers. Tangles are also non-representational.

Remember that tangles never start with pencil planning.

"A tangle has no pre-planning with pencil guidelines, grids or dots, no erased lines."

If you need a refresher on what makes a tangle, read the A PATTERN IS NOT ALWAYS A TANGLE page on the ZENTANGLES menu bar at the top of any page.

For details on how to submit your pattern for consideration visit the SUBMIT YOUR PATTERN page on the top menu bar of any page on the site. On that menu you will find these two pages:

    1. How to submit your pattern deconstruction to TanglePatterns, and
    2. Why hasn't my pattern been published?

The first page includes instructions on how to prepare and send your JPGs. (Please save me time and do not send PDFs). It also includes a link to this PDF submission form.

When your examples include additional tangles from the site, please list them in your email. (This saves me time and my memory some wear and tear.)

If your pattern is posted on your blog, attach your steps and tile JPGs to your email and be sure your email includes the direct URL so I can link to it.

And remember, to quote Zentangle's co-founders Rick and Maria: tangles should be "magical, simple and easy to create", non-objective patterns of repetitive strokes that are easy to teach and offer a high degree of success to tanglers of all ages.

"Keep the tangles as little like 'drawing something' as possible."
