Hi everyone, happy Monday and welcome to the week with a fun and whimsical tangle for you to play with.
Why was deconstructed by Danish CZT Daniela Nielsen and it’s her first on the site.
Why looked like eyes to me (whyes?), and indeed Daniela saw it in her mind’s eye.
As I’m half way through the process of having cataract surgery on both eyes — one done last week, one to go next week — I was amused by the idea of this tangle. I’m really going to enjoy being able to actually see what I’m tangling again!
Daniela writes,
One day I was sitting and relaxing with my eyes closed.
I saw a lot of pretty colors for my inner eye, and this pattern was hidden in the colors.
I drew it down straight away, so I would not forget it.
Now I have been playing around with it a lot of times since, and I have come to love the pattern.
The tangle is great for a ribbon or border, but it can also be used to fill in sections in a string.
Daniela illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Why below where she shows another simple way to vary it with a solid ink fill.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
