How to draw ZENCLUB TOWER

Did you know today is the first birthday of the Moscow Zentangle® Club?

Today’s Zenclub Tower tangle is from Russian tangler Natalia Sitnikova. Zenclub Tower honors the Club and it’s Natalia’s first tangle on the site.

Natalia writes,

My name is Natalia Sitnikova, I’m a tangler from Moscow, Russia.

Not long ago I read that a tangle can be a good birthday present for a tangler. I liked the idea, but none of my close friends had a birthday at that time. Then I realized that something very important for me is going to have a birthday very soon. That is our Moscow Zentangle Club.

The first club meeting was held on 23 November 2019. We met every month, we drew together, talked and laughed together. When the lockdown started, we continued our meetings online. People from different cities and towns of Russia joined us. People from different countries came to draw with us – Spain, the USA, Croatia. Some of them do not speak Russian, some of them have to get up at 5 A.M. to join us because of the time difference. Nothing stops them! The Moscow Zenclub has become a big international family for us.

I thought that it would be a great idea to give a tangle as a birthday present to our wonderful club.

I went to bed with this idea and early in the morning, in my dream, I saw this tangle! I saw the tangle and its name. When I got up, I just pulled the tangle from my awaking memory and drew it.

The tangle is called Zenclub Tower. I liked the name because our Zenclub is somewhat like a tower too, very strong and flexible. We support each other and we grow together. We are also flexible, just like the tangle – nothing can stop us from meeting. When we were not allowed to do it, we started meeting even more often.

I dedicate this tangle to my dear friends from the Moscow Zentangle Club.

Zenclub Tower definitely shares DNA with the Zentangle-original Zander. Totally different look though with a simple alteration. For my example of Zenclub Tower I aimed to honor the birthday love with a heart shape formed by the negative space with the two “towers” meeting in the middle. The way I did that was to create a heart shape with the curved strokes of Step 2 first then going from there.

And Happy Birthday to everyone in the Moscow Zentangle Club!

Natalia illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Zenclub Tower below where she features it in a cool monotangle Zentangle.
