How to draw PEEC

I hope you’re doing well and keeping safe 🙂

Sadly, the same can’t be said about the state of this country. It’s in a world of hurt right now. Wildfires, storms political and natural, and — oh ya — a worsening pandemic that’s a very long way from turning any corners.

So …

Today we have the lovely Peec (“peace”) tangle from Michigan tangler Monica Duetsch, and it’s her first on the site.

With her introduction about herself and her tangle, Monica shares a beautiful Celtic prayer. It seems so perfect for the times.

I hail from Sandusky, Michigan. Sandusky is a small rural farming community in the thumb area of Michigan. I returned to Michigan after 40 plus years living in Oregon to be closer to my family.

Being an elementary school librarian, now retired, I love bookstores and that is where my love of Zentangle® had its beginnings. I found the book “One Zentangle A Day”. Doodling was something I had always done and Zentangle was a natural extension. Being a part of such a diverse and global community has been very rewarding.

A number of years ago, several of my friends were going through very trying times and I found myself praying for them to find peace. This tangle was the result of tangling around the letter ”P”.

When I draw this tangle I often pray for peace for myself and others. One of my favorite prayers is this Celtic prayer about peace.

Deep within the still center of my being,
may I find peace.
Silently within the quiet of the Grove,
may I share peace.
Gently and powerfully,
within the greater circle of humankind,
may I radiate peace.

A beautiful prayer to tangle to and I’m lighting a candle for your prayers, the world needs them …

Okay … for my example of Peec, I used one of Monica’s variations shown below. You’ll note that Peec is mostly composed of auras, and in case you missed it I shared Zentangle co-founder Maria Thomas’s inspirational tutorial about aura-ing on Friday.

Monica illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Peec below. She notes,

Although using a triangular shape is my favorite way to draw this tangle, It can be drawn in many different ways-without a grid, a grid with a more open design, a grid divided into triangles (tip: make sure to alternate the direction of the diagonal from square to square which makes the design flow from the center outward.)

Monica, thank you for this beautiful Tangle and for the very moving prayer that accompanies it. This is especially meaningful in our present climate, and I plan to share it with others.

  • Melena

Monica, I really like this tangle, and the Celtic prayer about peace is so needed right now. Thank you.

Linda, I see the hurricanes in your part of the country, but it looks like they’ve been missing you so far, except for the rain I’m sure. Could you please send some of that rain to California? We really need it. You can’t? Sigh. Darn. I didn’t think so. 🙂 There was a fire near where I live, but thank goodness it didn’t get near enough to me and I didn’t have to evacuate. But I’ve been watching all the fires here and up in Oregon and Washington. What a mess from climate change. My heart goes out to everyone who has been impacted by these fires. We’ve also had that heavy smoke, which seems to be finally starting to clear. I’m used to staying inside these days, so I’ve just been hunkered down even more. Everyone, pleas stay safe and be healthy.

    • Linda Farmer, CZT

I sure wish we could send you some rain, Melena. The dreadful images of the wildfires and smoke are absolutely terrifying, I’m so glad to know you’re clear of it. (As if there aren’t enough things to try to keep safe from right now.)

  • Linda Dochter

Thank you, Monica and Linda. I tried this on a “crazy grid” as in Crazy ‘Nzepple and really enjoyed the result. I would say that no matter what cell shape if used, make sure it is big enough to subdivide into triangles. Linda – Did you intend to draw a tangleation or is my mind playing tricks on me? Its lovely and immediately drew me in to exploring this tangle. Peace.

    • Linda Farmer, CZT

Hi Linda, as I mentioned I used one of Monica’s variations – the one at the bottom of her variations illustration. It is a lovely tangle, glad you’re enjoying the exploration 🙂

  • Thanks for the prayer and an awesome tangle to go with it. Plan to use it in a journal of gratitude I’m working on.

  • Bonnie Johnson

Monica, This is sure to become one of my favorite tangles. It has such meaning for me this morning, and I copied the prayer in my working journal beside my practice work. We all need this calming influence in our lives. Prayer,+ Zentangle = Peace!! Thank you!!

  • Jenn Brayton

What a great tangle to explore and how very peaceful to sit and slowly draw each line and watch my triangles grow 🙂

Go raibh maith agat! (Irish for thank you)
