How to draw ANY

Zentangle pattern: Any. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Today’s tangle, Any, comes to us from Russian tangler Elena Babayants and it’s her first on the site.

There are quite a few tangles we might say Any “shares DNA” with — Yuma, Garlic Cloves, Kozy and Shango pop to mind.

It also reminds me of one of the lessons in Simone Bischoff’s wonderful free tutorial, “Sharpen your line drawing skills with six easy lessons“.

All that said, it’s a little different and Elena has shared her “accident” with us to explore.

Elena writes,

I am from Russia, Moscow. I have been fond of Zentangle® for 5 years already. This is my favorite hobby and my lifestyle!

The tangle was thought up quite by accident.

It was as if someone was driving my hand and the result was this pattern.

And since it looks like anything, and everyone sees something of their own in it, I decided to give it such a simple concise name. ANY – means anyone, whatever, free and different.

Someone will see in it the sea world, someone air, someone living creature … So it really is any! It all depends on the person who looks at it and fantasizes!

I wish you good luck with your creativity!

Elena illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Any below where she includes two more lovely examples of her fun and curvy tangle.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

An extra treat! Enjoy Elena’s YouTube video as she tangles the Any examples shown above. First she tangles on the white tile with a Lamy fountain pen and then on the black tile with a White Sakura Gelly Roll. Finally, Elena adds shading and highlights on the navy blue tile shown above.

How to submit your pattern to TanglePatterns

Everyone is invited to submit patterns, you do not need to be a CZT. However, in order for patterns to be considered for TanglePatterns.com you must submit them to me by email. Here's how:

For details on how to submit your pattern for consideration visit the SUBMIT YOUR PATTERN page on the top menu bar. On that menu you will find these two pages:

    1. How to submit your pattern deconstruction to TanglePatterns, and
    2. Why hasn't my pattern been published?

The first page includes instructions on how to prepare and send your file. It also includes a link to this PDF submission form - NOTE: be sure to right click the link to download the file. I've recently updated the form with more information so if you have an old copy, you might like to download the current edition.

When your examples include additional tangles from the site, please list them in your email. (This saves my memory some wear and tear.)

If your pattern is posted on your blog, be sure your email submission includes the direct URL so I can link to it.

And remember, to quote Zentangle's co-founders Rick and Maria: tangles should be "magical, simple and easy to create", non-objective patterns of repetitive strokes that are easy to teach and offer a high degree of success to tanglers of all ages.

"Keep the tangles as little like 'drawing something' as possible."
