This weekend our Asian tangling friends are beginning the celebrations of their biggest family holiday of the year, the arrival of the Chinese Lunar New Year tomorrow, Saturday the 25th. “Officially, the holiday runs for three days, but unofficially it is celebrated over the course of two weeks.”
Best wishes, good luck and good fortune to everyone celebrating their Spring Festival and the New Year!
Today’s Ypsmi tangle is from Swiss CZT Hanny Waldburger and this makes an even dozen of Hanny’s tangles on the site.
Hanny explaines how Ypsmi developed,
“I spontaneously found out that I love to draw the lines of the letter Y repeatedly.
I enjoyed to add auras to those Ys and kept drawing those again and again on different tiles.
This way the pattern Ypsmi formed after some time.
Besides being a very simple pattern with a very repetitive character it‘s an easy way to create layers and depth on a tile.“
Ypsmi has an architectural look to it to me, reminds me of church arches. Or maybe I’ve been watching too many episodes of Inspector Lewis and I’ve got all that Oxford architecture stuck in my mind? In any case I think you’ll enjoy this one. For the grid-based version after you get the initial Y shapes spaced out, the auras and your choice of fills and shading easily make the tangle pop.
Hanny illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Ypsmi in her notebook below. Hanny’s tiles show ways you can explore Ypsmi including rounding shown on the Zendala and a cool graphite-ghosted version for the left tile’s frame.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!
